From Records to State Runs, MMSD Student-Athletes Make Their Mark

MMSD is celebrating a phenomenal spring sports season! We want to give a huge shoutout to all our dedicated student-athletes, coaches and staff for their commitment, teamwork and outstanding performances.

Most recently in postseason play, Madison West Girls Soccer advanced to the WIAA sectional finals before falling to Oregon. The Vel Phillips Memorial Baseball team competed in the WIAA Baseball State Championship, where they ultimately loss to Kaukauna. Both teams showed tremendous perseverance and grit, on and off the field.

Madison East High School

  • Historic Tennis Run: The doubles tandem of senior Ari Vloch and sophomore Dominic Grant became the first Madison in history at East doubles team to reach State since 2012, successfully advancing all the way to the second day of the tournament.   
  • Breaking a 10-Year Golf Drought: Junior Abe Zolik advanced to the Boys Golf Sectional, making him the first Purgolder boy to move on to sectionals in at least a decade.   
  • Track & Field Record-Breakers:
    • Junior Celia Zoeller set and then re-broke the school record in the 1600m run over the course of the season on her way to qualifying for the State meet.   
    • Freshman Rachel Olm set the girls' freshman record in the pole vault with a vault of 9'3".   
    • Johnathan Hawkins set boys' freshman records in both the 100m (11.78) and 200m (23.81).   
    • Rishi Garvey Shah set boys' freshman records in the 1600m (4:35.61) and 3200m (10:19.73).   
    • Annika Stringer established the girls' freshman record in the 3200m (11:38.01).   

Madison La Follette High School

  • State Track & Field Qualifiers: The Lancers sent a robust contingent to the State tournament.   
    • Boys Roster: Mikias Daniels, Lucas Castellanos, Griffin Roesken, Oliver Anderson-Delgado, Augustin Meudt, Kingston Miller, Eliot Casey and Oleksandr Tolstov.   
    • Girls Roster: Madison Adesi-Washington, Maya Competente, Kyria Lavasseur and Dabere Omejata.   
  • Sectional Qualifiers:
    • Boys Tennis: Will Andrews advanced deep into postseason play.   
    • Boys Golf: Graham Quanbeck and Brandon Myhr both successfully advanced to sectionals.   

Memorial High School

  • Madison Sports Hall of Fame Recognition: The Liggon Boys were named the Andringa Multisport Athletes of the Year by the Madison Sports Hall of Fame Club.   
  • Historic 3-Sport Star: Will Lisowski-Semb achieved the rare feat of qualifying for individual State tournaments in three different sports during the 2025-26 school year (cross country, basketball and track & field). He went on to finish 18th in the State 1600m run.   
  • State Track & Field Standouts: 
    • Emma Kidarsa: Secured an 8th-place podium finish at State in the 300m Hurdles.   
    • Hayden Smith (Wheelchair Division): Had an incredible state meet, placing 4th in the WC 100m, 5th in both the WC 400m and WC 800m, and 7th in WC Shot Put.   
    • Elise Trombley: Finished 18th overall at State in the Long Jump.   
  • Boys Tennis: David Klaas captured a 6th-place finish in Division 1 Singles. The 1-Doubles pairing of Andrew Braun and Jason Li also advanced to the State tournament.   
  • Baseball: Sectional champions and will continue at WIAA State in Fox Valley June 15-18.

West High School

  • Podium Finish in Boys Tennis: Hunter Shadman and Ezra Roang earned a fantastic fourth place podium finish at the individual State tournament. Fellow competitors Alex Blonien (12th seed), Des Lasseter and Sam Stampfli also represented West at State.   
  • State Track & Field Highlights:
    • Nate Schwoerer: Finished in a strong 11th place at the State meet in the 3200m.   
    • Violet Wickizer: Placed 9th in the state in the 3200m.   
    • Girls 4 x 800m Relay: The team of Claire Dreyer, Claire Wagner, Elsa Block and Mary Tishler finished 16th at the State meet. Heidi Nemet and Audrianna Culp were also key state roster members.   
  • Boys Golf: Owen Smith advanced through sectionals to compete as an Individual State qualifier.   
  • Girls Soccer: The team is deep into a thrilling postseason run, reaching the Sectional Semifinals on their quest toward State.   

We're looking forward to a variety of opportunities this summer, including speed and strength training available to all incoming students in grades 9-12 at their high schools, as well as sport-specific activities leading up to the start of fall sports in early August.
